Changing the Ending

we have had a difficult week this week with filming. towards the end of the video we wanted to have a club scene which would show his fame through the chronological time line of his career. However, to changing circumstances we where unable to film this scene. there where many factors which this happened,
In the room we where wanting to film there where lighting equipment (which is shown in the photo) however because of a recent performance the lights where not rigged in the studio which meant we could not use them.
Another reason we could not film was because of lack of attendance we had made an even on facebook however, not many people responded to the event which meant if those who where coming came it would of not looked very good because it would not of looked like a club.
so we had to change are idea, we had some suggestions for example, filming him going up stairs ending with him looking down over the area which he has just walked through, we also though about getting different lighting, then putting them all around him and just film him on stage however show no audience. The final idea which we have done is getting him ready for the big performance meeting the stage manager (Sam) and meeting fans (Me and Jenni) then getting ready to perform, see the lights go out and the curtains open to finish. I think this is really effective because we can leave the ending to the imagination of the performance.

Progression
Over the half term we have been very busy doing are media portfolios. We all met up over the half term and decided that we needed to start filming. As a group we all played different roles. Jack was being filmed why Sam saw filming. When filming we tried to use a wide range of shots, extreme close up, tracking shot, mid shot, panning shot, close up, just a few I could name. My role was to make shore we had the right type of shot, time keeping, making shore Jack new the words and making shore as we were moving further down the time line we progressed through the song but making shore we had lots to work from. I was also filmed for about 10 seconds in the video. Jenni was mainly focused on the Mise-en-scene, the different type of setting we wanted were to show progression through time. Starting off by getting dressed, leaving school, going through his local area which he had grown up, a posh area of Oxford which we could be where aims to live and ends up in the club which he is doing a performance. While shooting in the posh area on Oxford we tried something we had not do which was a moving tracking shot. As Jenni had driven us to the area we used her car and made a moving tracking shot we all liked so we made and decided we should put it in the finale product. While we were filmed we decided as a group we liked the idea of have the main character recording his song in a record studio. This is not keep in time with a time line this is seen through the video.
After doing a majority of filming we have now gone into the editing stage. When we delegated sections to focus on me and Jack are covering the main editing stage, but with help from Sam and Jenni.
Jack
· Editing so that means is apparent to the viewer
· Using a varied shot transitions, captions and other effects selectively and appropriately
David
· Using sound with image and editing appropriately for the task.
With me a Jack both starting editing it gave some time for Sam and Jenni to film the lips which go with the lady part. We wanted a recurring image which would stand out so we used an extreme close up on the lips. We used the same shot but used three angles, square on, off angle to the left and off angle to the right. We wanted to have the same shot from different angles so it was not so plain and you where able to see the moth from different angles while saying the same thing.
We have had to use movie maker to edit the piece together, we have spent 4 hours so far on the editing side, we have had a couple of problems, for example, filming on two tapes and they would not go into one movie and trying to mute the sound on the images. These are problems which we have now over come. So far we have put all together the material we have films of the last couple of week and we have booked the drama studio for Thursday 18th November which we hope to film the last scenes. We are also hoping to get Sam in some of the filming as you have seen all other group members apart from Sam.
We have now got 2 minute 14 seconds edited together with lip sinking done for that part but also we have tried to uses the best transitions between different images, Jump cut, fade in, and fade out just a few. We have also used 2 captions in the video which as a group we chose where they went in the piece. While editing we decided the first shot should not have any music. We think this was a good idea because the first section is all about finding out who this person is, so having no music gave nothing away about him and lets you make up your mind about what he is like.
Thursday 14th October
Today we have phoned the venue, Oxford Studio, with changing circumstances we will not be able to uses them because of the time notice and it was also all ready booked. so we have gone over to plan B. the story will stay the same with nothing else effected by the change, the new location we have chosen is are school Drama Studio. As a Drama student it makes it easier to communicate and to make time to film in there. However, well we are wanting to uses the Drama Studio there are also a number of performances going on, for example, the sixth foe play, the main school production and also GCSE and A level performances.
As an A Level group we have decided for time and the flexibility as a group we are going to film without HB this is because we have got different time lines and other priorities which are effecting the piece we are producing so when have concluded that we are going to film without HB instead Jack will be taking the lead roll. We have now got a new day for filming Monday 25th October. which will have the whole day to film which we hope to film a majority of the production, we can then go into editing of the beginning of the video while we film the last section.
Dividing roles within the group
We had a look at the points in the level 4 section. We have decided to divide the key areas between the group. As there is four of use in are group we have decided to take to each.
Sam
· Holding a shot steady, where appropriate
· Framing a shot, including and excluding elements as appropriate
Jack
· Editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewers
· Using a varied shot transitions, captions and other effects selectively and appropriately
David
· Using a variety of shots distances as appropriate
· Using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task
Jen
· Selecting mise-en-scene including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting
(As this is such a wide topic we have decided that Jen should only have one topic.)
All
· Shooting material appropriate to the task set.
As we have all come to a conclusion and we have all chosen areas which we are interested in. This should make are music video a higher quality piece. I have chosen these two because they are not close together but also being part of the shooting and the editing and working close within a team. Even though we have allocated key areas to focus we will also have input in every area.
My two key areas,
- Using a variety of shots distances as appropriate
- Using sound with images and editing appropriately
